Ourack Wind Farm

The Ourack wind farm proposal will consist of 17 wind turbines with a combined capacity of approximately 100MW. *

Vattenfall adopts an iterative design process, continually shaping and refining proposed wind farm designs as feedback is received from consultees. These consultees include environmental organisations, local planning authorities, and residents.
Reflecting this approach, the Ourack Wind Farm proposal has evolved throughout its development. A summary of major changes is outlined below:

2015–2016: Initial consultation on a 50-turbine layout and associated infrastructure on a site extending to the boundary of the Cairngorms National Park Authority.

2019: Site area reduced by approximately 50%, with the boundary moved to 1.8 km from the Cairngorms National Park boundary.

Q4 2022: Planning submission for 18 wind turbines (each up to 180 metres) and associated infrastructure.

March 2023: Cairngorms National Park Authority planning committee members voted not to object to the planning application.

April 2024: Highland Council South Area Planning Committee members voted not to object to the planning application.

Post-2024: Highland Council raised concerns about the landscape impact of Turbine 17. Following discussion and assessment, this turbine was removed from the proposal.

The final proposal for 17 wind turbines (up to 180 metres) was consented by the Energy Consents Unit in March 2025.
