Thermal technology
Vattenfall is working in many ways to increase use of renewable fuels and to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases.
The Group R&D Thermal Technology Programme will provide knowledge and solutions for cost-effective heat and power production with less environmental impact.
The programme’s scope
The programme works towards:
- More efficient use of all fuels in the group
- Lower operating and maintenance costs
- Lower emissions of greenhouse gases through increased efficiency and increased use of renewable fuels
- Increased and efficient use of residues and by-products
- Creation of technical networks
- Implementation of R&D results
Technologies
The key technical areas (sub-programmes) are:
- Increased and efficient use of renewable fuels
- Enlargement of hard coal spectrum – reduce the cost of fuel and ensure future fuel supplies
- Reduced corrosion in power plants and waste-fired boilers
- Optimal operation of Vattenfall plants – increase availability and decrease operating and maintenance costs
- Beneficial utilisation of residues – environmental and cost-efficient utilisation of residues, such as ashes, as products
- Increased electricity production – future power plant concepts and increased production in existing plants
- District heating distribution systems
