Intelligent networks
Vattenfall has close to six million network customers, which makes it essential to ensure secure and reliable services.
The goal for the research in Intelligent Networks is to ensure the satisfaction of today’s and tomorrow's network customers. The strategy is to take advantage of the rapid developments in information technology, and to combine these with the evolution of traditional power technology.
New infrastructures
Vattenfall has a leading position in automatic meter reading for its customers. Customers in the Nordic countries today receive exact invoices, and new services will be available to them tomorrow. Examples of these are energy information and more efficient outage information.
New network structures
Today's sensitive overhead lines are continually being replaced by new technical solutions aimed at weatherproofing the networks. Research in this area is focused on measures aimed at improving the “real” quality of supply perceived by the customer.
New network components
Vattenfall is continually updating its long-term vision of future network components. The ambition is to have more reliable, efficient and cost effective components. The visions are used in discussions with suppliers to press for products that fit into Vattenfall’s Intelligent Networks.
Optimized operations
The distribution network is one of the most essential infrastructures in society today, and is expected to become even more so in the future. The way the system is operated affects both individual customers and other main services in society. Making use of modern information and communication technology as well as advanced simulations and analysis ensures a stable and reliable service.
