Nordic countries

Vattenfall generates roughly 20 per cent of the electricity consumed in the Nordic countries. We also have considerable heat generation operations, largely based on biofuel, and sell district heating and so-called thermal heat. Vattenfall also conducts consulting, contracting and R&D activities, primarily within the energy sector. In the Nordic countries our operations are based on hydropower, nuclear power, thermal power and wind power.

Germany

Vattenfall generates, distributes and sells electricity and heat on the German energy market. We also trade electricity and energy-related raw materials. With a population of 80 million people, consuming almost 500 TWh of electricity annually, Germany represents Vattenfall’s largest electricity market in Europe. Operating some of the world’s cleanest and most up-to-date lignite-fired plants, 87 per cent of electricity is generated from fossil fuel. The rest derives from nuclear and hydropower. With the longest network in Europe, Vattenfall is the biggest player on the German district-heating market. Vattenfall Europe AG is Germany’s third largest electricity company.
