A market with good potential for wind power

Vattenfall aims to increase the level of renewable energy used for electricity generation. That is why it sees renewable energy technologies as a cornerstone of its, and Europe’s energy future.

It is because preventing climate change is such a priority that Vattenfall bought AMEC Wind Energy and Eclipse Energy in 2008 and Dutch utility Nuon in 2009. These acquisitions have led Vattenfall to quickly establish itself as an important player in the growing UK land and sea-based wind industry.

In the UK the potential for wind power is good due to strong winds, a deregulated and competitive market for electricity, an openness to foreign investment and a well-functioning support system for renewable energy.

We have a strong wish to become a key player when it comes to increasing electricity generation from wind in the UK.

We are already proud owners of the Kentish Flats offshore wind farm with a capacity of 90 MW and an annual electricity production of 280 GWh. Enough to supply approximately 50,000 homes with electricity.
