South Kyle wind energy project

South Kyle Wind Farm proposal is a 50 wind turbine onshore development located south of the B741, mainly within Kyle Forest and to the east of Dalmellington.  The site lies across the border between East Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway local authority areas.

The South Kyle site has an excellent wind resource and Vattenfall believes a wind farm can be designed in this location to minimise impacts on the local community and aviation interests. The Vattenfall approach could bring real benefits to the local community during construction and operation whilst making an important contribution to combating climate change.

South Kyle wind energy project

Our wind farms produce clean, green electricity helping the UK meet its goals for renewable energy generation and reduction of carbon emissions. We also believe that our wind farms should also be assets for local communities, supporting sustainable development locally and enhancing quality of life.

Vattenfall is committed to ensuring that each Community Benefit Package will be:

  • Locally relevant: we will work with communities to develop a Community Benefit Package which is proportionate to the scheme being developed and tailored to the needs and aspirations of the community.
  • Open and fair: local communities should feel confident that Vattenfall is giving them a fair deal. The means of calculating the value of the fund should be consistent and transparent.

Any community benefit fund will comply with Local and National Guidance on proposals to manage the fund.

Planning application process

Due to its size, an installed capacity of over 50 MW, the development will be considered for planning consent by the Scottish Government’s Energy Consents Unit. The local planning authorities will be statutory consultees. Up until an application is submitted the responsibility for consulting with the local community lies with Vattenfall.

Once an application is submitted, any comments should then be sent directly to the Energy Consents Unit.

Information throughout the project

Community engagement is a priority for Vattenfall and this is the beginning of what could be a long term relationship. Vattenfall want to start this relationship on the right foot developing local support through schools, businesses and regular meetings with members of the public and community councils.

Throughout the development of the wind farm proposal Vattenfall is committed to working hard to keep local people informed about its plans and is undertaking an extensive public consultation including:

  • Stakeholder engagement sessions
  • Presentations to local community councils and groups
  • Individual consultations with interested parties
  • Public exhibitions
