Research & development (R&D)
Vattenfall undertakes research and development (R&D) as part of the Group’s business development. Our aim is to meet the demands and expectations of our customers, to reduce the environmental impact of our operations, to improve the efficiency of our operations, and to contribute to both our climate vision and our strategy ‘making electricity clean’.
At Vattenfall we see Research and Development, as a tool for Business Development, with both a technological or natural science base. Since Vattenfall’s core business is to produce and sell energy, this is where our focus lies.
Our R&D work is vitally important to reduce our emissions of carbon dioxide. Investment in renewable energy, nuclear power and the new Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology are Vattenfall’s most important strategies in achieving this.
Vattenfall’s Group R&D programmes are organised in six areas:
- Renewables
- Operational Efficiency
- Energy Efficiency
- Nuclear Energy
- Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS)
- New Technologies
