Pen y Cymoedd Wind Energy Project

The Pen y Cymoedd Wind Energy Project is a 76 turbine development in the county boroughs
of Neath Port Talbot and Rhondda Cynon Taf.

Pen y Cymoedd Wind Energy Project is a 76 turbine wind energy project, located in South Wales. In May 2012 the project was granted consent by the Secretary of State for Energy.

The project is expected to be operational by 2016, and will have an installed capacity of up to 228MW.

Pen y Cymoedd is a major inward investment project for Wales, which could be worth more than £1bn to the economy, and: 

  • Create many new jobs
  • Provide new attractions for tourists
  • Benefit communities with a fund currently worth around £1.8 million every year
  • Enhance the local environment and increase biodiversity, and
  • Produce clean and sustainable energy
