Vattenfall begins the dredging of Ramsgate Royal Harbour
One of the first specialist vessels to work on the construction of the Thanet Offshore Wind Farm is due to arrive in Ramsgate at the end of February.
However, at the moment it cannot use its intended berth, except at high water because of the amount of silt. To remedy this Vattenfall is arranging for the berth to be dredged. To ease the access of the support craft the entrance to the Royal Harbour will be dredged to a depth of 2m.
The dredger, the Admiral Day, has arrived in the Port of Ramsgate and it will dredge the area off No.1 berth to a depth of 6 meters The dredging began this week and it will take approximately three weeks to clear the silt, just in time for the arrival of the installation jack-up barge “Sea Jack”.
Once the dredging has been done, the harbour master will take over the dredging maintenance. The dredging should not interfere with the normal maritime movements in the harbour and port. In fact, fishermen and yacht owners are welcoming it.
