Thanet offshore wind farm construction update (Kent)

The first foundation pile was driven into the seabed today –
Friday 20 March 2009.

The construction of the Thanet Offshore Wind Farm is well and truly underway. The Seajack made its first trip to the wind farm site and successfully installed the first monopile foundation.

The dredging of the port continues. There were two dredgers working today in Ramsgate.

The yellow navigation aids will be placed on top of the monopile foundations to ensure they aren’t a hazard to boats and ships. They have lights and radar reflectors. The photographer standing next to the one in the photo below gives an idea of its size. They will stay in position on the foundations until they are replaced by transition pieces. The turbines will then sit on top of the transition pieces. News: Thanet offshore wind farm picture 2

Below is an aerial photo of Ramsgate. One of the dredgers can be seen to the right of the ships. The yellow navigation aids can also just be seen. Ramsgate
