Clashindarroch wind project
Clashindarroch is an onshore project situated in Clashindarroch Forest near Huntly in Aberdeenshire. The forest is managed by Forestry Commission Scotland and is one of the largest woodland blocks in the north east.
Aberdeenshire Council granted planning permission for the 18 turbine wind farm on 14 December 2010. Vattenfall will now start planning a forward programme for the development of the wind farm which will generate enough electricity to meet the equivalent domestic requirements of around 24,296 households.
Vattenfall will continue to work closely with the local community and when built, Clashindarroch will enable continued delivery of forest management whilst also harnessing the area’s wind resource to produce clean, green electricity.
This first application for a wind farm in the forest was submitted in 2003. This was for 47 turbines. This proposal was then reduced to 40 turbines in 2005 and then 37 turbines to address Moray Council’s concerns prior to public local inquiry. The scheme was rejected by the Scottish Executive in 2007 following the public local inquiry.
A revised proposal was submitted on in May 2009 to Aberdeenshire Council for a wind farm of 18 wind turbines with a maximum turbine height of 110 metres.
In spring 2009 Vattenfall held a ‘Fresh Start’ open day in the Gordon Arms Hotel in Huntly to introduce the company to local people.
