Blackmyre Moor wind project

Vattenfall is pleased to introduce the community consultation for the Blackmyre Moor wind farm proposal. The onshore project is located to the south-east of Creetown, in the Wigtown district of Dumfries and Galloway.

The Blackmyre Moor site has an excellent wind resource and Vattenfall believes a wind farm can be designated in this location to minimise impacts on the local community. The Vattenfall approach could bring real benefits to the local community during construction and operation whilst making an important contribution to combating climate change.

Our wind farms produce clean, green electricity helping the UK meet its goals for renewable energy generation and reduction of carbon emissions. We also believe that our wind farms should also be assets for local communities, supporting sustainable development locally and enhancing quality of life.

Vattenfall is committed to ensuring that each Community Benefit Package will be:

  • Locally relevant: we will work with communities to develop a Community Benefit Package which is proportionate to the scheme being developed and tailored to the needs and aspirations of the community. In this case, £5,000 per megawatt installed is proposed.
  • Open and fair: local communities should feel confident that Vattenfall is giving them a fair deal. The means of calculating the value of the fund should be consistent and transparent.

Any community benefit fund will comply with Local and National Guidance on proposals to manage the fund.

Planning application process

Vattenfall will submit a planning application to Dumfries and Galloway Council for consideration under the Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act 1997. Once the application is submitted, the proposal will be subject to a formal consultation process and any comments on the development should then be sent directly to Dumfries and Galloway Council. Up until an application is submitted the responsibility for consulting with the local community lies with Vattenfall.

Community engagement is a priority for Vattenfall and this is the beginning of what could be a long term relationship. Vattenfall want to start this relationship on the right foot developing local support through schools, businesses and regular meetings with members of the public and community councils.

Vattenfall will make every effort to consult all known interested parties during the design of the wind farm and address any concerns raised.
