Aultmore wind project
Aultmore is an onshore wind farm proposal situated in Aultmore Forest, Banffshire. The site is approximately five miles north of Keith and four miles south of Buckie in Moray, Scotland.
Amec Wind Energy, now acquired by Vattenfall, submitted the planning application for Aultmore Wind Farm in October 2007 to Moray Council and we await a decision.
In spring 2009 Vattenfall held a ‘Fresh Start’ open day in Keith Community Centre to introduce the company to local people.
The original proposal for up to 31 turbines was submitted to the Scottish Executive in 2003. In 2004 the Moray Council objected to the proposal citing a number of reasons including potential impacts on landscape, over-wintering geese, and noise during construction and risks associated with former use of the site as a military firing range. The scheme was redesigned to address its concerns and in particular to reduce its visibility, optimise its fit within the local landscape and to maximise local benefits.
On the advice of landscape consultants this has now been reduced to a single compact group of 13 turbines at the eastern end of the forest with a maximum turbine height of 110 metres.
